Specialist Units

Once you have qualified with the School of Babywearing™, either on our Babywearing Consultancy course, you can undertake our specialist units.

Specialist units currently available to qualified consultants include:

Babywearing for Premature and Low Birthweight Babies and Twins

This unit is designed to assist those involved in the use of slings for kangaroo care and to support premature, low-birthweight and multiple babies in their first year. Once you’ve completed this unit you will understand the benefits of kangaroo care and be able to advise parents how best to babywear their premature or low-birthweight baby.

Babywearing in Special Situations

This unit examines the needs of parents and babies with special needs and disabilities, pregnant mothers who wish to babywear whilst pregnant and parents who wish to tandem carry (wear two children of different ages). Once you’ve completed this unit you will be able to advise parents how best to carry their baby/child in special situations.

Using Slings for Labour and Birth

Based on the uses of rebozos in Mexico, this unit uncovers how slings can be used in pregnancy, labour and birth to support the mother and baby. Once you’ve completed this unit you will be able to advise and assist parents in the use of slings for labour and birth.

Supporting Breastfeeding through Babywearing

During this unit you will learn how the use of slings and baby carriers can facilitate breastfeeding and overcome some common breastfeeding problems experienced by mothers and babies. Once you’ve completed this unit you will be able to advise and assist parents in the use of slings to help facilitate breastfeeding.
